175mm mtb cranks

has anyone tried changing from 175mm cranks to the same on your road bike? i'm just about to put 170mm cranks on my mtb.
I'm wondering what the difference would be and if anyone has done the same. I don't understand why mtb cranks are all 175mm when for road bikes they are different to suit the rider
i've heard that 175's help keep you rolling over rough ground. are there any other benefits?

hardly noticeable as you are not sat down much of the time."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

My bikes have always had 170 cranks, but then again they're always small frames. Now where's that "Get Out of Crash Free Card"0

There was a thread on here about crank length a week or so back - try searching for it...
In synopsis though, you won't even notice the difference... on a road bike where sizes and tolerances are way more important there's no noticably difference so on an MTB I'd imagine it'll be even less...0
