question about brake lever/handlebar diameter compatability

So I'm putting together a cyclocross bike and want to have brake levers on the top of the bars, as well as the drops. I want to use some old levers i have from a MTB. now i know that the diameters of mtb bars and drop bars are different at the clamp point but what about the rest of the bar? i know mtb bars are 22.2mm along the rest of the bar but i can't seem to find that fact for drop bars, only the clamp size! so can anyone help?

just get some proper cyclocross levers, bodging the mtb levers will be a pain.

+1 for the proper levers. Drop bars are 24mm so you would have problems there. You need to fit interrupter levers on the big section of the bars.
