Bent skewers? How does it happen?

Started a thread elsewhere asking about skewers - as mine seem to bend (especially the front ones).

Some people saying that as the hub basically supports the weight of the rider (and not the skewer itself), it should be impossible to bend a skewer.

Anyone else ever get a bent skewer? Any ideas on how this can happen?

i had a hybrid bike that had bent skewers, i thought it had something to do with both wheels being out of true from broken spokes.

could be wrong but might be worth checking the wheels.

    Broken axle?
Trodden on when not in the wheel?
  • Had a rather expensive DT Swiss bent...

I only use Shimano ones now... I'm more than happy to compromise the few grams difference for a stronger and more efficient (and easier to open and lock) quick release
