The bike/motorbike designers have fallen into this trend over the last few years of designing these minimalist beam frames and hubless wheels. I imagine the engineers are laughing their a*ses off (or crying if someone is actually expecting them to design a working model). I do like the idea of a driveshaft with variable gears but this example looks like it needs some more work to develop a wider ratio of gearing.

never work. the wheel is connected at the side, so has to be strong enough to take impact, be able to come apart so that tubes/tyres can be replaced. that design is immpossible to build. although on the other hand looks good.
