Hi

Did the Tour Ride and quite early on in the ride I remember looking west I think and seeing some hills in the distance shaped like volcanoes (from were I was anyway).
Any one know what this range is called ?

Thanks

    Slag heaps?
  • Shropshire. The Wrekin, near Clun and Bishops Castle.

Slag heaps are not that big, they are also spread out and mostly hidden in the valley.

Hi , did the tour ride as well and I live in North Staffordshire.
If you mean the hills that were visible from the top of the climb just prior to the descent before Gun Hill you would have been looking at the Roaches ,an escarpment of gritstone just outside Leek,Its quite a beautiful area ,with lots of history attached to it .
Could also have been the Wrekin which is a single lump in Shropshire which is visible from the tops above Leek.
On a very clear day you can just about see Wales too.

We went over the roaches on the way back to manchester after the TOB. Pretty steep climb, 21% max on the garmin!

Not a hill, but a rock that I pass on one of my routes (and it is on top of a hill). It's called Camel Rock - don't know why.
