is chis chain too fat?

I am using a Shimano HG40 on a Miche 8spd cassette. It seems tight to me as I cannot pass a piece of paper between the chain and the next largest cog on the cassette. it says it is for 6-8 spds. It is also quite fat through the mech and jockey wheels.

    6/7 and 8spd chains are the same width

    all chains are pretty snug on the sprockets so I wouldn't worry about that, unless it's catching or jumping.

    If so, just fit a narrower 9spd chain.
