Michelin Krylion Carbons appear to be well rated by others as a winter tyre.

  • I like Maxxis Detonators as an all rounder around 19.99 each on CRC
  • What about Dutch Perfects - a bit more less likely to pick up those bl...dy punctures too! Cost about £28 I think

  • ..are winter tyres meant for more grip or for less punctures, or both?

they just weight more than a race tyre? i wouldnt call my my michelin krylion carbon tyres, winter tyres as they are training tyres or more all year round tyres except for mud paste and ice.

anyways michelin krylion carbon is what i would choose, after using the axial carbon tyres long years ago I stayd with the krylion carbon tyres. tho everyone to their own kind.

It's Michelin, whether that be ProRace 2s or 3s, which some people use year round, for Krylion carbons, which are tougher but have more rolling resistance. Both are good.

I have just bought a pair of Krylion carbons but not fitted them yet. I am getting bored of never getting a pun****e with Rubinos and wanted to see if these Michelins were as good!
Can anyone report any stratospheric mileages on these without a flat?

+7 (or whatever it is) for Krylion Carbons or alternatively a plus in the column for Vittoria's Open-Pave CGs.

Needing new tyres for commuter/winter bike : have had Gatorskins on and after initially not having great confidence in them I have grown to quite like them.
I didn't realise that they were available so cheap but if the Krylions have better grip and also decent life and p* resistance then I might try them - should I go for 23s or 25s tho ' ?
  • Vittoria Rubino Pro.

Bought a set last year and have yet to take them off for any reason (varying milage, used for innercity commute and long weekend/evening rides) ..

Nice n grippy, good range of colours all in all I'd utterly recomend them!

  • Have you thought about Vittoria open Paves? Expensive, but sublime ride and grip.

Just spent a year using Schwalbe Stelvio Plus tyres on my winter/commuter bike without a single problem. Unlike ordinary Stelvios and Gatorskins, they have not cut up at all. Combined with the Safeguard anti-puncture lining, they seem to have it all.
Found some for under £20 on the www.

The price of bike tyres is ridiculous. Vittoria Open Corsa CX are £40 at CRC. Even mid range el cheapo tyres are now £25.00. It's a rip off when you consider you can get a decent car tyre for £60 which is a lot heavier, larger and has a lot more technology engineered into it.
