Hi all
just starting out ! thought i'd join my husband now kids older. Using his old hardtail until i get my own bike but experiencing information overload at present trying to decide what bike to get :roll: husband has full sus but i think i want hardtail going to take my time to chose though wanna make sure get right bike for me have £1000 budget.

Welcome Emma. That's a nice healthy budget for your first bike - have fun choosing!
Personally, I would start with a hardtail - you can always get a full-suss later if you end up into downhill but a hardtail I think, is more versatile for a beginner (you might end up with a garage full of bikes though ).0 -
Personally with that budget I'd go for the Giant Anthem X3 2009 model (if you can find a shop that still has one in stock!).
Absolutely superb all-round mtb! It's also ripe for up-grade as the frame is the same as all the other Anthems in the range.
It's a full-suss but a very light and versatile one. Anthems are incredibly popular on the XC racing circuit.
If you want more inspiration, I can also recommend the back pages of What Mountain Bike magazine for some ideas as to what to buy. Shop around, though, as there are some (if not many) good bargains out there at this time of year as bike shops try to shift old stock.0 -
