Dry bottoms

The cold and wet season is arriving and I wonder if someone knows how to keep my bottom dry and warm in the rain.
The problem I am having is that the seat pad of my bibs is getting soaked and and after a while this is simply cold and soaking energy.
Normally I wear racing bibs and long bibs over this. If it is really cold I put a layer of thermal underwear between this. None of this stuff is waterproof.

Any suggestions?

  • I assume you have mudguards fitted to stop your wheels spraying your back?

Nope. And they won't fit either. I have checked.
  • even the natty new crud roadracers?

dry a different pair of racing bibs with a smaller pad or some really wicking ones, i've found that with properly wicking lycra when you get wet it isn't too much of an issue.

Without guards - you're gonna have problems. You could get one of those silly fin things that clips on your seatpost to keep the worse off it - but the new crudguards fit most bikes.

Look at the Crud Mudguards. They will fit. I have 4-5mm of space between brakes/frame and wheel, and they fit fine with no rubbing at all.
  • You can get waterproof MTB shorts. I have heard of folk wearing these over there regular shorts to keep the worst off.
  • That's a good idea. I had thought of buying a pair of those nylon overtrousers (Regatta or similar) and cutting the legs off just above the knee,

yep + 1 for mudguards, got a "sill fin thing" that uses a piece of webbing to clip onto my aero seatpost, and even in last Tuesday's biblical downpour it kept my ar*e pretty dry.

endura stealth bib tights, longs and lite version. quite restrictive but breathable and waterproof. they fit over the overshoes.
not cheap so make sure you know what your buying & size you require.

You can get mudguards that clip to your seatpost. Not cool, but they'll keep your *rse dry! I held out for years, and then wondered why!
