I have a 6 year old fox float that is loosing air (150psi down to 100psi in abut 3 hours riding. its also quit oily. Is it time to bin it and replace it or can these thing be serviced and repaired easily? I hear of people spending 100 quid on a service and reckon I can replace this shock for 200 so wonder if its worth it?

Its a 2002 RL, on an Enduro expert frame, does anyone know an equiv replacement + what size?0

edit - OK scrap that - I've found the tech spec - it seems to be 7.625" x 2.0"
new ones seem to be listed as without bushes - what are bushes? and could I reuse the existing ones?
Also this doesn't seem to be a current size.. Current spec - is 7.5. or 7.875. Do I go for 7.5inches or 7.875 - the choice seems to be 4mm too short or 6mm too long? I'm minded to go for the longer one and squash it?0 -
Bushes are specific to both the frame & shock, they are the parts that fit between the shock & frame mounts to allow movement of the shock (a bit like a bearing)
Using a different length shock can cause issues. Different geometry, rear wheel could foul the seattube..
Ideally you need a 194mm x 50mm (7.625" x 2") but it seems to be very hard to find one
What bike is it off?0 -
2002 Specialized Enduro Expert FSR.
On another forum, I read that people go for a 200mm 50mm or (55mm) The theory being that the longer on each end balances the geometry out?0 -

no there was really a general lack of knowledge - Given that I already have different front forks, high bars etc. I'm less concerned about geometric problems and can't imagine that 6mm makes that much difference?
The second challenge if making sure I can lock out the shock for road work.. is ProPedal any good as an alternative to lock out?0 -
hello.
id highly recomend the rp23 got mine £220 on ebay. if set up correctly pro pedal works great and i hadrly have any bob on the road climes on way to trails.
also TFT tuned will tell you what bush sizes you need if you buy them from there site0 -
Thanks, that is a good price, I'm minded to go for a seal kit and have a go at servicing first. Mojo do a kit for £15.
Pumped it up last night and left in the garage, with no loss of pressure, so I think it might be the seals??0 -
i got luck and it was new but 2nd hand taken off a new frame but can still get them relativly cheap0
