First Road Bike: Cube Attempt, Cube Streamer or Trek 1.5?

Hi all,

I'm new to the world of Road Bikes, although I've done plenty of cycling before, just always with a mountain bike!

I'm just about to order my first Road Bike and have narrowed it down to:

- 2009 Cube Attempt
- 2009 Cube Streamer
- 2010 Trek 1.5 (Compact or Triple)

Before going ahead and making my purchase, I just wanted to get some experienced opinions from people who have been riding Road Bikes previously.

I know that Cube are the lesser known brand of the two, but they look great (although that's not exactly high on list of priorities!) and they are very well spec'd, particularily the Streamer. Trek, is also well spec'd, but doesn't look as good value for money and I'm not keen on the colour!

I've considered Specialized, but after comparing them in the flesh to Cube and Trek, the latter seemed to be better build quality and spec.

What do you guys think? All thoughts are welcome!

Many thanks,

Nick

Hi Nick82. I have a Cube Aerial. Although a lower spec than the Attempt or the Streamer, I can't fault it. I even had a a couple of guys admiring it on the ferry trip yesterday. They were impressed with the quality for the price as well as the asthetics.

    Hi Flasheart,

Thanks for the reply! The reason I found Cube bikes in the fisrt place, was because of the Aerial and to be honest, I'm still thinking of buying one now! The value it represents is just unbelievable. A great spec, all for the price of much lower spec alternative brand bike. And like you say, they are fantastic looking! Probably the best I've seen.

The reason I was looking at the Attempt and the Streamer, is due to their higher spec. My idea was to almost try anf 'future-proof' the bike I buy, so I'm not swapping any components over myself in the future for better spec ones.

In your opinion, do you think the Aerial is any worse off than the other Cube's in terms of spec? It's much lower price is very appealing, but if the others are worth the extra cash, I would get one of them instead.

Not having had another road bike since my late teens (pushing 44 now) I haven't had anything to compare it against. I'm sure that loads of more experienced people here can fill you in on individual component opinions.
