Getting the right spring on a new bike?

Hi
I've just bought a new Norco frame from a dealer. It's the first full sus bike I've bought. I was looking at how to set it up and have realised I need a different spring for the shock (it's a DHX 3), cause the spring rate is way too low for my weight, which is gonna cost another £54. Is it usual to have to buy the correct sping in addition to the purchase price of the frame & shock (it was sold as one item) or should the shop have offered me the correct spring for my weight/use when I bought it...seems a bit of a rip off being sold something I don't need...?
Cheers

Some do swaps. But if you bought it like that without testing sag or the spring for your preference then some of the blame is on you.
Have a word with the shop, they may be able to do you a deal.0 -
...but the manual says in typical corporate speak...
"your Norco dealer will be able to advise you on the correct adjustments to your suspension..." they didn't advice me on anything, they just took the money! It's quite obvious I'm a big lad and they should have pointed that out to me...
Help me out here, remember this is all new to me...I've used the spring calculator on TF Tuned and it says I need an 800 spring...is that right? The bike has 6.5" of rear travel, the shock is a DHX with '450 x 2.37' on the spring and I weigh 100kgs all kitted up...do I really need an 800 spring for freeride?
Oh and I couldn't test it for sag or spring cause it's just a frame....
Cheers

some shops ask for your weight and set the full thing up for you (what happened when i bought my full bike) or if you buy a frame which i did before from the same place they just sell you the frame as it is. i suppose if you buy the full bike they will take more time rather than something that they know you will be building yourself.Best quote ever (pinkbike): "i've heard that Hill pees, deffecates, vomits and masturbates before each race to keep the weight down"0

It sounds like the shop could have been more cooperative actually - I got the feeling you bought it online at first.
Definitely ring them up!0
