Hey
I have been looking at TFT and mojo and they are so expensive, like 100.00 with delivery.
You can get wicked shocks for 250.00 now and to pay 100 for a full service is just a rip off.
Anyway, looked at a video and seems quite simple, but maybe just over my head.
Could a L.BS do the same job as mojo at cheaper costs?
Yes I know the warranty will be affected, but I dont care when it will cost 100.00
Thanks

It will be affected as in you won't have one.
The shops probably won't touch them - but you could have a go at home.0 -
I just had the painful experience of splashing £99 at my local LBS for a service of my F100s. They removed them from the bike, sent them to Mojo for me and fitted them back on the bike all as part of the cost.
I thought it was a bit of a rip off before I sent them tbh, however when Mojo opened them up they found a small fault and replaced the upper legs, crown, all the dials and steerer under warranty so I've now got what feels(and looks) like a brand new fork. Worth it in the end.Santa Cruz Chameleon

I got two kids running around me and have not got time or 100.00.
What I cant undertsand is this:
If its quite easy why are LBS reluctant to touch them, all I want them to do is look at seals, re:oil and make sure everything is ok.
Its like getting a oil change, any mechanic can do it.
But I dont want to, or cant.
And last time I tried cleaning my mavic wheels, I lost little stuff and had to get them re-built.0 -
My mate had a set of of his vanilla's done by our local shop, great reputation. the mechanic took them apart. The mechanic put a knic in a upper stantion, ripping the seal when re-inserted, when questioned he said it was already there.
Mojo have a great fork service turn around, i run 36 floats and a rp23 both recently serviced, yes it cost just shy of 200quid but, it's the quality of the job, both forks and shock's were turned around in less than 3 day's, the mechanic's at mojo do this day in day out, definalty worth the money plus keeps the warranty gooing well

So basically what you're saying is -
1 - you aren't willing to spend money to get them serviced
2 - your LBS won't look at them
3 - you're not willing to do it yourself.
In that case, you're in a no-win situation. Put up or shut up.
One of the three has to give if you want them serviced. Either pay the man, find an LBS that will service them or man up and do it yourself. It's that simple.0 -
Most LBS that service forks will just send them to Mojo or TFtuned anyway, to be honest.0
-
Yup most lbs won't touch them due to warranty hassles or they don't stock the parts or have the time, there's a number of reasons basically it's much easier for them so send them off.
Don't know about front forks but fox rear cans are a doddle to take apart and service, the only tricky part is if it develops a fault in some other area like the lockout etc then it can become tricky, personally i'll be taking my rp23 apart quite soon, fox readily publish how to do it as it's that simple. The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

Mine are of to TFTuned tomorrow. They've been playing up for a while (TALAS isn't working properly). £ 100 is a lot of money but I've got the piece of mind that everything will be replaced and fettled properly and they are in the hands of suspension experts (and if I have on going issues TFT have a good rep for customer service). So hopefully this time next week I'll be able to report back that it was £ 100 (probably more ) well spent. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -
I finished a race from Cairo to Cape town on my new fox f90's a couple of months ago, they were utterly nadgered.. after cycling through deserts the seals were destroyed, they had slowly lost all their oil down the west coast of Namibia and South Africa, the stanchions were scratched where a kid through a big rock at me and the lockout was broken after hitting so many potholes locked out. sent them off to mojo under warranty. £100 later i have new seals, steerer, legs, stanchions, dials, crown and goodness knows what inside. My only complaint is that seeing as they were replacing both the black legs and black crown, they didnt give me the white equivalents, which are far superior (aesthetically)Stumpjumper Comp: was marketed as a "cross country" bike, but with a bit of effort and 4 months in the saddle, i can safely call it a "cross continent" bike! I totally understand all your points.
But I have been riding them for almost 2 years, and they feel ok, so I would hate to spend 100.00 for someone just to change the oil.
100.00 for something that costs 350.00 ... It does not add up.
I am not sure how long fox warranty is.
Maybe will get LBS to have a look and if they feel they need work doing then will have to pay.
Oh and Dave_hill, its not a case of put up or shut up allright mate, I got a mortgage and 2 kids, do you think I have 100.00 lying around and I am not that great with mechanics either :?
Oh and if I have to bite the bullett which is better, TFT or MOJO?
Thanks0 -
AFAIK tftuned aren't a warranty centre. So if they're in warranty you send them to mojo, if not then tftuned are a bit better.
Although tbh, if you haven't serviced them in 2 year they wont have a warranty anyway, IIRC it is dependent on correct servicing intervals.
As for the cost for changing oil and seals etc. it's the internal inspection that you're really paying for. Plus you've got a premium product so you're going to be violated for servicing charges, just look at the service costs for expensive vs. usual cars...0 -
oh on the lbs side, would you be happy if they serviced your forks, something went wrong later or and fox refused to honor your warranty?0
-
I went into Evans who offer servicing and from what I can see they charge £45 for the basic service seals oil and inspection...........the odd thing is though they virtually refused my business and said mojo could do it faster and that the next service date was a week away (they send stuff in bulk to be serviced) Has anyone used evans for shock servicing are they any good, price seems more reasonable, and yes I think they are taking the piss charging £100 considering the new cost.

Got the forks with my focus superbud 2008.
And got the bike when it first came out, so late 2007 I assume.. So long ago.
Not sure about warranty.
Like I said have not touched them since new, except put air in and out.0 -

Here Here mate, i'm am the same boat as you, i have used this to do my forks but i'm sure the same applies to shox as well , i use this site, just follow the site step by step and its really easy, if i can do it anybody can http://service.foxracingshox.com/consum ... lector.htm The stanchions are totally shot on my forks and the seals only last about 7 months so i just change them and change the oil, seals are £15 and the suspension fluid which will do at least 3 oil changes is about the same price http://www.mojo.co.uk/Website2010/html/ ... parts.html Good luck,Bianchi Via Nirone 7 Alu/Carbon, 2011

Is it as simple as just taking the air out and emptying the oil and making sure the rubber seals are clean?
I tried following one site on fox and I got lost about half way through
Anything I need to worry about?
Like I said I messed but my rear hub and had to be re-built.
They are like 400.00 forks and yes I know they wont melt and destroy my bike If I have a go, just dont want to break anything.0 -
I did a lowers and air chamber service on my RS Reba forks the other week, and I would imagine the process is fairly similar on Fox.
I tried to get away with just on oil change,(£6 for some 15 wt oil)and on first reassembly discovered that I had a slight air leak.Took them apart for a second time (which took about 1/4 of the time)and installed a new air seal kit,(£25) reassembled and they are now good.
It is actually quite straightforward, but you do need to be careful you don`t scratch the stanchions, when you split the lowers, and don`t over tighten fixings on reassembly.
I reckon I could do mine in an hour now,but first time took me about 2-3 hours as I had to keep referring to the RS service guide, and kept going back to check everything step by step.2006 Giant XTC

Does anyone know of any videos for the fox f100rl ?
I tried following the one on fox, but its more some guy talking with pics, tried you tube but cant see anything.
Nice 10 -
Just contacted sunset and they said they wont touch, so at least they are honest.
emailed MOJO to see if they have any payment plans for the front and rear.
From what I gather from there site they said its like a hundred for the rear, which puzzles me as well, as a new RP23 IS 170.00 on merlin, so for 70.00 more you can get new........ strange eh! :? .0 -
-
Did not notice.
This is getting so expensive, dont know how people afford this stuff.
TFT is the same price.0 -
high end components do cost money to buy & service, they're quite often built at the limits of weight & performance and need the servicing to perform well
servicing costs, I guess it could take upto an hour to fully service a fork or shock, which might cost £40 or £50 in labour costs, with the parts used on top & VAT it soon adds up.
Unfortunately that's what you get when you buy top spec stuff.
I really need to service my RP23 & Float R forks, no idea if they've ever been done as I bought a demo bike.
Just have to suck up the costs somehow0 -
Maybe use the mortgage account and pay it back over time I guess.
I heard they replace everything as well, even if it does not need it, new seals ect.
And also put new stickers on as well, so not all bad I guess.0 -
People afford it as it is their hobby and what is a few quid every now and again to keep enjoying the hobby. You MOT and service your car every year and that costs money and needs to be done, bikes are no different.
No matter what bike you ride you should expect to pay £200+ every year on servicing costs, things wear out, suspension needs serviced etc...............
I have to agree with dave_hill really, either take the time to learn the necessary skills or pay up. For a full fork service it can easily cosy £50 for parts alone so paying £80 plus postage for a proper job is pretty good really.0 -
Yeh starting to realise.
Did not realise they replace eveything no matter what, and put new stickers on ect..
So they get them to brand new again.
Will just have to bite the bullit, or might try stretch to XMAS as always get money from family members abroad.0 -
RS forks seem to be cheaper to service though. And simpler at home, without your warranty been void.0
-
They emailed me back.
89 for the front and 89 for rear, + delivery.
I am going to do the front this month.
I will get the My new LBS to tell me the size of the rear, and I am going to get my dad to buy me a 2010 one from canada and sell the old.
100.00 for the rear, its only a RP2, So not top of the line. can get a new one from canada for 150.00 with the exchange rate and sell the old.0 -
eh? how is £150 for a new one, cheaper than getting your old one refurbished for £89 :?0

yeehaamcgee wrote:eh? how is £150 for a new one, cheaper than getting your old one refurbished for £89 :?
I can get a better one than my RP2, its newer, and only for an extra 50.00.
Its not 89.99, its 89.99 plus the delivery.
Its more the princable,, paying 100.00 for something that can be had brand new for an extra 50.00. They prob can be had brand new on ebay for around 100.00 in america from when I was looking quick..
Maybe I am being dumb, but I would prefer new, than refurb.
The front one fair enough, that is like 400.00 so 100.00 is understandable.. sorta.
Going to get the front one done, deff, but will leave the rear until after x-mas, maybe get a new one in the sales or something0
