My 1st pair of SPD shoes are now getting past it having been used daily for my commute and offroad at weekends - bought a year ago from Aldi.

Prepared to move my budget on this year and set it at £50.

Three pairs of shoes have caught my eye and I would love some feedback from anyone who has tried them,

The three are,

Shimano M076

DHB M1

Pearl Izumi Attack

Any feedback would be appreciated, or any alternatives within the budget.

Many thanks

  • Not tried any of those, but Specialized BG Sports are £50 and are super comfy, especially if you have wide feet

  • I use dhb m1, really comfy, stiff sole and good grip. exellent value
  • The Shimano ones you've picked out are excellent. Have ridden in them for hours at a time and have had no problem. Even pushed up a 2000m mountain in the alps and they were fine for that! Just go a size larger than you normally do as Shimano SPDs are on the snug side.

Thanks for the feedback so far. A thumbs up for the Shimano & DHB M1 and a pair of Spesh BG at £50 - excellent. Still no nearer to deciding though.

Rudedog - those do look good value, the only drawback looks like the sole, the others have well defined ridges that would aid grip, especially pushing uphill on wet, deep, grass (as often happens in the Pentlands).

I'll need to take a trip to the lbs to try them I think.

I can recomend the Shimano M076 as i have a pair, i do however find then bit cold on the old toes due to the mesh at the front but nothing that a good pair of socks wouldnt fix.

the dhb shoes have screw in studs on the front for extra grip in mud etc, similar to football boots, but still easy to walk in

Yup, all manufacturers sizes and widths vary so you do need to try before you buy

Shimano & Northwave were too thin in the toebox area for me

Spesh BG Sport fit spot on for me, superb shoes.
