Viper Scandium

I'm quite new to Mountain biking, I've had road bikes for years, but fancied a change.
I bought a Viper Scandium (09) 4 weeks ago and decided to try to protect it for a while so put some Bike Shield on it. BIG mistake  . I've used it plenty on my road bikes but this frame isn't the best quality paint job in the world. When I removed it to replace it with some carbon looking tape, I took many layers off the frame. Poor quality paint job indeed.
Viper want nothing to do with it and Chainreaction cycles have more or less said tuff luck, your nice new frame is not our problem.
I just wondered if anyone else out there has had any similar experience? :x

Have you told them what you have done?

If not quote distance selling rules failing that see your local cab and go from there.

Btw viper paint is known for being weak at best, could be less hassle to suck it up and get it resprayed?
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

  • I've told them everything. After many emails and phonecalls to chainreactions, who also contacted Viper, we were told that paintwork wasn't covered by warranty. Chainreaction have more or less said tuff luck we want nothing to do with it. I only wish I'd known that Vipers paintwork wasn't the best before I'd bought it. So much for customer care!
Will definateley look into the CAB and see what they can recommend. Really I'd be glad to get rid of it, it's really put me off it now. Very inferior bike :(

Always test a small area first!

I am pretty sure that this is not under your guarantee - though if Bike Shield claim it is safe I would take it up with them. What does it say in the instructions?

^this, tbh. the paint has come off because of something you did to the frame. I understand that it's arguable, but there you are. Also regarding the instructions, the heli tape I bought for my bike stated that you should heat it with a hairdryer to get it off, this is obviously to soften the glue. are you supposed to do this with bike shield and, if so; did you?

while I would expect the paint to be covered under warranty, I would not expect the effect of application of third party stuff to be.

how does it ride, by the way?
