Cav vs Bolt

During the TdF, my son asked the question: would Cavendish beat Usain Bolt in a sprint?
Well, my money is on Bolt - unless Cav has a bike and Bolt doesn't. Then I wonder - 100 metres from a standing start... How long would that actually take on a bike? I am tempted to find a bit of flat, mark 100m and time it. Then I assume that Cav could do it maybe ... much faster than me.
Bolt is, apparently, crossing the line at about 28mph. I can get up to that on the flat but I don't know if I could in 100m.
Any thoughts?
(Sorry if someone's done this one before)

Not 100 metres but Jamie Staff could just about do it over 200m from standing start...
But then again that's with a fixed gear. Gears may speed up the acceleration a tiny bit.
I still don't reckon you'd be close over a 100m standing start...0 -
I've done this against my brother, and he (running) beat me. You just can't get close to that sort of acceleration on a bike, I'm afraid.0

Why not simply opt for the default method of finding out who is better?

Yep I agree, there's no way a bike could accelerate quickly enough so over 100m the runner would win hands down.Do not write below this line. Office use only.0
