I have been trolling the net looking for a suitable front light for my road bike.I plan to ride through winter using unlit A roads.I realy wanted to buy a fenix light as evreyone is raving about them.Unfortunately they are not taking any orders off the website until the 23rd September.i have however found this at my local machine mart which is also £20 cheaper then the equivalent fenix flaslight.

has anyone used this machine mart flaslight and how does it compare?

"The NSC2.1 is an advanced new product, utilising a CREE Q5 LED. This gives a high power beam, which can be seen from 2 miles! With a power source from a single AA battery this torch emits an impressive 155 lumens for a duration of 2 hours."

!! 2 miles - isn't it supposed to be something like 12 miles away you can see a candle on a clear night?

Never heard of it, but from the info:
    - 155 lumens is not a lot compared to the better Q5 torches, never mind P7
    - but: it is cheap, uses AA batteries, and looks small and light. Perhaps 2 would be a good idea.

What web site are you using? The Photon Shop is a great shop for Fenix, UK based, next day delivery.

As for the machinemart one, it is probably okay, but the output and runtime may be less than ideal I would go for a 2 AA torch like the Fenix L2d or LD20. (I use an L2D CE Q5 for unlit railway path commutes, does 4 hrs on high which is usually enough, or 2.5 hours on Turbo).

Dealextreme (google it) do torches at about half the price of the machinemart one, but delivery is 8-10 days usually.

Get some decent NiMH batteries (Alkalines work poorly on these lights) and a decent smart charger. Vapextech are a good source for 2900mah AA batteries, and their LCD World Charger is a decent (i.e. kind to batteries) charger at a good price.

I've just got my P7 from dealextreme. 900 lumens. about 45 quid with 4 batteries, charger, helmet mount, handlebar mount.

Batteries on charge as we speak.

    I'll let you know.

    Build quality appears excellent.
