Cutting Down Handlebars Safely

I have a pair of Easton EA70XC handlebars on the commuting steed, fitted with bar ends. Finding them a touch too wide and am considering cutting them down by an inch or so on each side. Beyond leaving enough space for levers and lights, is there anything that I should be aware of before taking the hacksaw to them?

  • well don't take an inch of them right away, move your grips and bar ends and controls in until you find the best place!

then mark them and cut them, use a sharp fine toothed hacksaw, masking tape as a guide and smooth off the ends with a round file.
  • Use a plumbers pipe cutter, nice clean accurate cuts.
