Wiggins to Sky, Contador to Garmin.

Well probably.
There have been rumblings and rumours to this effect, for a while now.
Several "sources" have said it's a done deal.
The Guardian have now reported the same.

Should please all concerned and not please others, especially if that other rumour, regarding a lot of mountaintop stage finishes, at next year's Tour, is also true!

Just posted in the transfers thread that Vaughters has said there is no truth to it.Fckin' Quintana … that creep can roll, man.0

the Guardian are only reporting that there are reports (though churlishly not naming the newspapers reporting it).
One of those cheap, byline-free, filler stories they use to fill up space on the website.0 -
is this all on hold until the announcement (today?) about whether sky get a pro tour licence?
If I was Brad, I wouldn't be gambling on that.
The cyclingnews story reports that contador has made it clear he intends to honour his astana deal. er, that's not entirely correct is it?0 -
Garmin and Contador would get the best out of the deal.
if AC wants to maximise his earnings, he needs to recognise that Garmin or Columbia are the teams for whom to ride. Going to Garmin would be a statement that he's clean.
As for Wiggins, would love to be wrong but don't see him beating a healthy AC.0 -

UCI regulations limit the number of ProTour licenses issued per year to 20. Currently, 13 teams have existing licenses and with the withdrawal of Skil-Shimano's bid, seven are seeking renewal or new licenses.

I believe that Garmin has one of the smallest budgets of all the top level teams - in the region of 5m euros. Columbia would be a better bet for the money. Maybe Caisse d'Epargne would be better for his GT chances.
I don't think Contador really cares about whether people see him as clean or not.
Remember his press conference, when he just refused to answer any questions related to doping?0 -

This will presumably apply to other potential Sky team members who have not been announced such as Pauwels, who was accidentally confirmed by Geraint yesterday. Not only that, but presumably a lot of non-Sky transfers...
The ProTour now looks 99% thanks to Skil-Shimano, which will have helped grease the bearings of the transfer market, and the announcement, whenever it comes, should get it moving.0 -
Didn't Vaughters make a comment about Wiggin's media sponsorship value, being in the tens of millions?
In which case, it could explain the 2 mill compensation figure.
Can't believe GS are operating on just 5 mill."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
Garmin have a budget of €7.5million but they also had that new juice company come onboard as a co sponsor I think the other week, so that could be worth quite a bit extra for next year.0

I don't think Contador will go to an English speaking team unless he's desperate.0

Vaughters comes out with the sort of "self-valuations" that you'd expect to see on Dragons Den. I think he's recently claimed that the teams exposure value is close on $100 million.
Just because the Mirror / Guardian have said that JV is looking for 2 million doesn't mean he won't be happy to go home with half that sum in his arse pocket. Its just a negotiating position
What are the odds on Sky riding Shimano next year in return for Skil pulling their PT bid?'This week I 'ave been mostly been climbing like Basso - Shirley Basso.'0 -

Was thinking more about maximising his earning potential for income outside team salary - personal endorsements, etc. Of course, he may not care about that. But if he does, Garmin or Columbia (who don't seem interested) and the ones with whom to go.
Unfortnately the ambiente in Spanish cycling at the moment is either in denial about doping, or convinced that everyone is doing it. Either way, they just don't seem to think it's a big deal. [/quote]0 -

What's the problem with an English speaking team as opposed to a team that uses another language. Pretty international groups of guys on most of the teams. They come from all over. I don't see a team as being "bad" for anyone strictly because of language.
And besides, there's always "THE MONEY" to make up for all the terrible things those English speaking teams are known for.0 -

Because he's Spanish and would prefer to ride with a group of Spanish riders probably!
it's not fun being the only non-english speaker at the dinner table. (And I know he DOES actually speak English - but not as well as he does Spanish).
It's a comfort thing.0 -

English speaking semi - pro's for years put up with the likes of being the only english speakers on international teams, whether it be the ACBB or any of the international squads. not perfect but others in the past managed to 'man up'.0

Contador's in a position where he can insist the entire team speaks Klingon if he wants to. He's not some guy trying to break into the pro ranks for the first time is he?0 -

It was said on the ITV4 commentary of ToB today that Wiggins was going to Sky....... ......... but that doesn't necessarily give it much validity0
