Hi All
My Rockhopper Comp is fitted with the above brakes, it is 4 months old and done 550 miles, my question is about the front brake.
The lever can be pulled nearly to the bar, where as the rear one you cant, is there any adjustment anywhere or will it have to be bled. It works fine its just a bit scary when it can be pulled all the way in.
Many Thanks

If you haven't got anything obvious wrong like pads missing, then it sounds like air in the system.
You'll need the Avid bleed kit which costs around the £30 mark, or alternatively pay your LBS to do it for you.0 -
This advice is coming from knowledge of motorcycle brakes, but they are nowadays pretty much the same.
Check the disc isn't warped as this can sometimes cause the pad clearances to be greater than they should be.
Check that the calipre is properly aligned and not twisted - slacken the adjustment nuts squeeze the brake tight and re-tighten works well.
obviously check the pad wear, if you got some muck or nasty stuff in the pads or didn't bed them properly etc they can sometimes crumble.
lastly... (before you bleed)
Second pump the brakes and strap the brake in the pulled in position and leave it standing upright over night. See how it is in the morning. I don't know why this works but it often does0 -

yes there is there is a reach adjuster.
Bleeding is not normally needed as it does not sound like the brakes are pumping up.
As DIY check the pads out and the caliper/rotor positions and the pad condition."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Many thanks for the replies,

You were correct there is a small allen screw in the body of the lever to adjust, now the front is spot on, (different story with the rear, see seperate post) I missed it first because my son has the juicy 4 on his Expert and the adjuster is there to see.
Thanks Again0
