Hi All,

My hands tend to get *very* cold in the winter so I'm on the lookout for a decent set of toasty winter gloves that will stop me from watching them turn blue! Any suggestions as to what to buy?

Cheers,

James.

Endura Lobster mitts are pretty toasty. I actually never wear mine cos I find my hands get too hot, and I'm a 'cold' cyclist. I think layering works with gloves just as well as it does with other clothing so I usually go for some Decathlon silk running gloves under a pair of cheap thermal windproof gloves. I then have 3 options for if it warms up while I'm on a ride.
    More problems but still living....

I have been using a pair of Altura Nightvision gloves for the last few winters. Been really pleased with them. Keep my hands toasty and they are also waterproof.

I have a pair of them, but I hate them! There's too much gel in the palms, I find it uncomfortable...

I have Endura Strike gloves that I bought for MTBing and they are superb. Not too warm but I've never yet found my hands getting cold whilst wearing them and they are better than the lobster gloves as they have seperate fingers

I use Pearl Izumi Amfib gloves and liners. They are seriously warm but the lack of dexterity takes some getting used to!

Aldi do a pair for £4.99, did me fine all last winter, both on my commute and also at Penmachno and Llandegla in sleet, snow and rain.

Got to be worth a punt - even as a spair pair.

  • I bought some Polaris 'Glove-Tec' with Thinsulate lobster-style gloves years ago, I got 2 pairs because I like them so much (and I can get seriously cold). I don't think they're made anymore, but worth snapping up if you see a pair IMO.

I've also got some Nevica over gloves (ie cover whole hand without individual fingers) which were designed for sailing but are unbelievably warm in even the coldest conditions.

  • I just bought Endura Deluge gloves based on great reviews on Wiggle (I wanted waterproof as well)

when you say you feel the cold it depends how much.

I also feel it in winter, and I went for the Assos layering system which are supposed to be the best gloves for winter available and they cost me over £100. however they did not work at all !

I then tried Endura, Radiant, PI, etc - aroudn 4-5 pairs - same issue - tips of the finmgers just kept feeling cold.

Turns out it was a case of Raynauds and not the gloves, so if its still an issue you might wanna get it checked out.

Last winter i was using cotton gloves, then rubber surgical ones, with windproof altura over the top. Still had cold hands on 5am commute. Maybe looking at snowboarding gloves for this winter. My hands get painfully cold.

Last winter I bought some Sealskins, very nice Merino wool inside with a waterproof liner and knitted outer. Not a bad buy for less than £30, I had no problems with cold or wet hands, a bit tight when new but they soon loosened up.

Agree there - Even though it was freezing last winter I don't remember my hands being cold. Infact I remember having to take them off going uphill as my hands were too hot.

Only waterproof for about 20 mins though

+1 for Spesh Sub Zeros, both layers together kept my hands toasty-warm last winter. I never bothered trying them individually though, just wore Seal Skins when it was a bit warmer. Lobster gloves work well to but I find the Sub Zeros a bit more usable.

Pair of fleece gloves I bought in tesco about 5 years ago for £2.50. The holes in the palms got too big so I've bought the Aldi ones now.
    £100 Assos gloves? I laugh.
