Replace it yourself?0

i dont know how and have not got the tools0

It is a very straighforward job in reality.
Have a read of Park tools.0 -
Dont you have another bike, doesnt have to be as modern or as high spec as your proper off-roader, just something to blast around on up in the woods for a few weeks whilst your good bike isn't usable/at the bike shop...0

+1 for fixing it yourself.
If you can't replace a chainring, then you must struggle with wiping your own arse.0 -
I'm for sure a member of the "Do It Yourself" clan [Also known as the fix-it-till-it-breaks bregade].
The amount your LBS will charge for the job will conver the cost of tools, the plus side being you will always have the tool for further jobs in the future.
Like Sonic says, park tools offer some really good guides on how to do it, clear and step by step, you cant go wrong.
Just make sure you've got the right tools for the job, any extras grease/lube/loctite you need and a free afternoon and you're away! What We Achieve In Life, Echoes In Eternity0 -
ive got to replace the bottom bracket aswell is that easy0

Yep!
You will need some tools. But as I understandm, you are upgrading your bike bit by bit anyway. Have a look at the tool kits Halfords do.
First though identify what crank and BB you have, and what you want to fit.0 -

A good starter kit, but Halfords have nigh on the same thing for £25. You may need other specific tools for what you want to do with every part - but overall you will save a lot on workshop time in the bike shop.
That crankse is very good and does come with a bottom bracket. However it does require specific tools to fit, and you need your frame prepared first with a facing tool (which is an LBS job).
However if you go for a more traditional set up, the tools in the Halfords kit will suffice ie:

ANd an octalink bottom bracket.
Not as good as the SLX.0 -
On the tools front I don't know how much postage to uk and any import stuff is but this seems really (too?) cheap if you want to splash out...
