Tubular tyres for clincher rims!!

I have recently been thinking of going tubeless but I've come across tubular tyres with a lip on the underside that slots into a clincher rim that eliminates the need for glue/tape and the need for tubular rims.

Anyone any experience with these?

  • i don;t have any experience of them, but there was a thread a while ago that concluded that they offered the wosrt of both worlds. You still have heavy clincher rims and your punctures becomes very expensive!

I'd suggest you get some decent clincher tyres such as Conti GP4000S, Vittoria Open Corsa Evo CX or Michelin Pro Race 3.

Another option is to go for 'tubeless' clinchers (only some wheels are compatible though). I'm not sold on these either, but they have more potential. Try googling for "hutchinson tubeless"

I'm currently riding on michelin pro race 3 but I've rode tubulars in the past and in my experience nothing beats them!!
