Has anybody tested these knog frog lights?

I was wondering how good they are. They look quite small, cool and low priced!!!

Thanks

  • they're okay, they're more been seen lights than anything, and they're pretty easily obscured. Not hugely bright but a very cool design and a great idea as a backup.

I personally prefer the larger beetle/skink combo...

I wouldn't rely on them as my only lights but they're a good backup/addition to more powerful ones. Blackburn Mars 3.0, for example, is a great rear light.
  • I'm disappointed in mine, only 18 months old, battery is working fine, but the on/off button is sticking, on two rear lights and one front light.

  • If you are using them as 'be seen' lights they are superb. If you want them for anything else then look elsewhere
  • Back up light only. By all means, stick them all over to give you more visibilty but you still need to use a main light.

Last week one of our club riders was returning from a bash - he has a main rear light and a rear tiny knog. His main light died and he got stopped by plod as he was not visible enough. Good on them as it was for his safety, and they followed him home to make sure he was ok. Imagine if all drivers were that considerate

The bigger Knogs are pretty bright though.
It doesn't get any easier, but I don't appear to be getting any faster.
  • the knog bullfrog is a handy rear light and i have just this week got two black knog beetles for the front as the evening are drawing in, more 'be seen' lights than anything, beetle/frogs dont give sufficient light to see where you're going but definitely make you a bit more visible, especially when in seizure inducing super disco strobe mode.

Could just be me, but I dont like to skimp on lights. The knogs would do if they were a last ditch resort - but I'd rather have the most visible lights around.

I'd reccomend the Smart 1/2 Watt Superflash - and I'd always go for 2 lights - if one goes out - then you won't know.

the smart 1/2 watt superflash is amazing! - actually blinding to be near and very very noticable - at £9 it is a complete bargain!

Got one of those as an additional flasher on the chainstay driver side, main rear light is a Knog Skink 4 LED on the seat tube.
Got a 4 LED Knog Gekko on the front.
These are great lights & you can take them off, no brackets, so easily swap between bikes, but none of the LED sets are really good enough for lighting your way in the dark IMHO, but perfectly good for town cycling at night.
    Love em to bits

For front lights to see by - go to the MTB buying advice forum and check out the 'what lights' sticky at the top there.
  • I use a Skink on the rear which is a great light and I have a couple of frogs for back-up good for getting seen in around town but no use a lighting the way but then they only cost 7quid so are great for the money and are a great design

    I just bought a pair

    Easy to transfer between bikes

I have no intention of riding at night, but think of them as a dusk light, for when I get caught out and the light is starting to go, or it's coudy

I think for that kind of use, they are great.

For proper night cycling you need decent main lights as well
