Um why would you want to put oil or grease on the cassette?
    More problems but still living....
  • im not suer, as a beginner i would of only asumed that you fluxed it up before fitting it.i just wanted to know what was a good oil to use as i also got a mountain bike i could use it on.ive been told that you cant/shouldnt use chain oil on the cassette as it washes the grease out of the bearings,is that correct ?

You don't need to oil a cassette, just get some chain lube from Finish Line, dry lube does ok and put it on your chain.

You can put a bit of grease on the inside of the cassette, so it doesn't bind on the freehub. Don't use car grease though, get some from the bike shop.

Same stuff doing the same job, although the bike stuff always seems to cost a lot more...
  • copper grease on the freehub before you fit cassette and as already said just oil the chain
  • I've never bothered putting anything on the freehub before fitting the cassette. There doesn't seem any point as I can't see how it would seize.
  • don't need anything, just a small dab of coppaslip or grease if you're tight on the lockring so you can get the bugger off again.

lube you chain with a decent chain lube (ask other riders near you what works well) and leave the cassette alone.
