Brick lane bike market

My bike not pinched in the East end the other day so I went to Brick lane to have a look for it. I went to the police station to look for a non-emergency number I could call if i spotted it. The chap on duty stressed that I shouldn't try and retrieve it myself but should call it in. He also gave very specific (and accurate) directions to where I would find the stolen bit. Good that they're on the ball..
I don't know how anyone could think this market is legit. Obviously you can't disprove their claim to ownership without a frame number but honestly - 8 chavs in trackies leaning on a chainlink fence behind 8 bikes, propped up on the curb by the pedal. They don't even muster a half arsed impression of being the legitimate owners. There was a girl sitting on a 2009 Speicialized Langster Monaco with thighs so wide you coudn't see the seatpost - selling it because she wants a faster one. It was like a porno with a flabby older guy incapable of making the most of what he's on. Total showing was:
2009 Speicialized Langster Monaco
2009 Speicialized Langster Chrome (both with carbon forks and seatpost) RRP £450, going for £150
Carrera racer with Campag Chorus and half a back brake, £120
Carbon Schwinn racer, good Campag gruppo, flat plastic pedals, £150
2 Ridgebacks, £80 and £60
1 Marin hybrid, £60
1 BSO for comedy value
I'm thinking of mounting a camera on the fence opposite and webcasting on Sundays. Then at least the poor sods that get their bikes nicked don't have to treck down there on the bus for a futile mission.

And you can bet the proceeds go straight to the local drug dealer
Good luck with getting your bike back.0 -
There is some advice over on http://www.londonfgss.com which recommends the same as the police advice - don't try to recover your own bike. Instead they suggest waiting until an innocent (ha!ha!) third party buys it and then challenge them for ownership. That way you're dealing with a single person (who will lose their money) rather than a local gang - very sensible on the face of it. The fact that someone is stupid enough to buy what is a fairly obvious stolen bike means that they deserve to lose their money. Sort of makes sense to me.time flies like an arrow
