I was out with a friend in proper rain tonight and I wear glasses, I didnt see the subway ahead was as flooded as it was and entered it up to the tops of my kness (jump bike not XC height) I am wondering are modern bikes ok for this, I picked the bike up straight away and carried it out, but am I looking at rusty cranks :(

I gave the bike a good wipe down when I got in

  • I rode my colleagues MTB home through the floods in 2007 through a couple of miles of similar depth water. Water dispersant relube and a good exercise of his forks left no lasting faults. Just make sure your frame has not taken in any water.

Checked bike tonight, chain and gears ok just oiled up and the cables.

I took the seat post out and turned upside down and a small puddle of water came out, mabe enough to fill half a wine glass, should I spray some WD40 or something in there?
  • Yes, get it dried out as best you can. Might be a good idea to pop the bottom bracket out at the weekend get it all cleaned and lubed, you don't want that water to start corrosion on the inside of your frame. Steel or ally?
