Good point! No wonder I can't coordinate my shirts with my shoes if I don't think of things like this....

Clearly my taste in bikes is somewhat better than my taste in clothes... 8)0 -
as far as I'm aware the eye will distinguish yellow before any other colour when moving into the periphery of your vision, so if a car is sitting at a junction ready to pull out it will the driver will see a yellow object coming along the road before any other colour of object. This in reality may just be fractions of a second but lets face it you roadies need all the advantages you can get0

It'll be interesting what happens in a couple of years when the EU regulations come in regarding all new cars to be sold with Daytime Running Lights, i.e. dipped headlights on when you're driving, whether it's dark or not, like Volvos used to be.
Suddenly, there will be lots more lights on the road, comparatively big bright lights.
I think anyone riding without lights, or with a low-power halogen or LED light, or even high power LED, will suddenly not be that visible any more.
You're going to need bright flashing lights to be noticed.
Personally, I prefer to wear light, bright and contrast clothing in bright daylight
- e.g. race team jerseys are often visible if they are white with red&black or blue&yellow bits one them
At night, as my commute is part-urban and part down unlit country lanes, Il have a strong steady front white light to see where I'm going plus also flashing LED to be noticed, a flashing LED on the back to be noticed plus also steady LED to allow someone to judge distance better, as on some of these country lanes I'm being caught by cars doing 60-plus.
I also wear reflective bands around my ankles, which move as you pedal, plus reflective bands around my arms just above the elbow, which hopefully can be seen when I indicate.
But of course using eyes and ears to work-out where a threat might be who hasn't seen me is pretty good idea too...0 -
