Hi, can anyone tell me if the 23 mile Red route is any good, or am i best doing a few of the shorter Black/Red routes?

  • Depends on what riding you like, wasn't to my liking but i'm not much of an XC'er and it seemed to much mor eof an xc route. Wasn't enough fun down for the hard work you had to put in.
  • I like a bit of a challenge and also the technical descents, think i'll give it a go with a few of the lads and the distance should fill the day anyway.

you can always chop and change between the red, black, old red, world cup course & secret stuff if you keep yours eyes peeled to make a pretty good ride by missing out some of less fun bits, but saying that i still like to blast the full red off when me and the lads are in the mood.
oh and you can easily turn of on to the moors to add a bit of great natural riding to the mix.
  • I enjoyed the red route at Dalby it is pretty nice if your into XC.

But the boardwalk parts on the black run I found to be quite slippy even on a dry day.

Stay away from Dalby then.No technical descent whatsoever.
  • Cheers for the info, going to have a look down and try it out as we are trying to sample a bit of all the trail centres around the North. Best so far has been Kielder and hopefully we'll enjoy Dalby too. Regards Steve.

    That's a matter of opinion.
And i think there are some technical descents on the red route.
Its not exactly a DH course but there is a good mix of climbs, descents, rough, smooth, rocky singletrack etc..
It's a great route IMO. It's long enough to test your fitness levels and has enough it in to challenge you both physically and mentally.
Tthe black route is not really a route as such, it's more a series of detours from the red route that, frankly, are quite disappointing!
I'd reccommend anyone who hasn't done it before to give it a go because it's a decent days riding, plus there's a bike park if you feel like playing, and a decent cafe for when you need a nice drink and bite to eat
  • Thanks, we're going down this Sunday just hope the weather holds out.

Yes and my opinion is its probably the worst TC in the UK.I suppose it all depends on what you call technical. Then there's the £7 to park.
    Marin £1(meter never works though)
    Penmachno free
    CYB £2/£3
    Whinlatter free
    Grizedale Free
    The 7Stanes i've done £2-£3
ALL far superior trails....even Grizedale, which is a bit tame/boring,unless you do all the natural stuff.
I repeat Dalby £7!All for a trail about as technical as riding down your average street.
The cafe might be good but for £7 you should eat for free.
  • That is a bit steep to park, all the centres i've been to are usally around the £3 mark. The lads will pay that as i'm driving anyway!

yes i must admit that £7 for parking is criminal. The difference between you and me is that your back garden is the peak district and mine the lincolnshire wolds, so your standards are probably higher than mine!

anyway how do you find your enduro?
apart from needing the forks servicing, mine's excellent

I had to have the Attitude adjuster cartridge replaced after a month, but 16 months on its been faultless.I think its the best fork i've ever used 8) .

yeh my attitude adjuster has recently seized. Gonna get mine serviced soon they're quite sticky tbh
  • Well we rode the red route today. Must say we enjoyed it. The weather was perfect and the trail conditions were bone dry.
I thought the route was well thought out and a good mix of climbs, rooty single track and features. My only gripe is the way markers were slightly confusing at some junctions, one of our lads managed to get lost on the final 2 miles.
All in all a great day out and would recommend Dalby to my friends.

  • Hi ste0649
I was there on sunday ,with a group off lads from mtbguisborough.ning ,there was 8 off us in total ,there was a few off us who had not done it before ,and we were new to mtb ,it was a great day ,weather was great too ,mind you we started at 9.30 and finished about 3.00 ,stopping for plenty of rests ,seen a few riders comeing off ,luckly not me ,over all we had a great day ,glad you did too
  • Hi Neil,
You must of just been ahead of us. I remember one group of lads that stopped just after the twisty climb next to us, i think they were on Specialized bikes and we kept crossing paths an the way round.
I got the impression that Dalby wasn't that good from a few online reviews, but i and my mates enjoyed it.
