How can i tell what size my nuts are??

im wanting to replace the track nuts on my bike, why do they always corrode before anything else on the bike?

I cant decide however whether they are 10 & 9mm or 3/8 &5/16 thread.

I am inclined to think they are imperial not metric as the thread seems finer than any metric bolts i have.

Any clues???

thanks, sorted. i bought one of each from LBS and took the ones back.....they are metric fine thread
