I've bought another bike!

Couldn't resist it - i have been thinking of a 'family' bike since the whole family have got into cycling - I had been using my winter bike, a Trek Pilot 1.2, for these duties but it wasn't really suitable for towing the tag-a-long and / or bumpy cycle path routes - even with it's 28mm tyres fitted.

I bought my wife a new carrera subway Ltd edition earlier in the summer when it was reduced to £259 from £399 - at the time it seemed like a bargain and still feels a considerably better bike than it's price tag...

So when I noticed that the mens version had been further reduced to £200 - I just had to have one!

Nice eh!

This takes me back up to 4 bikes (Roubaix, Pilot, Langster and newone) but the langster is getting sold which will pay for this new addition!

  • looks nice on the piccy..wonder how they do it for that price

what sort of Roubaix do you own - and how does it ride?

It does genuinely feel like it is closer to £400 than £200 bike - it has an alu frame, SRAM gears and tektro mechanical disc brakes. the only thing I don't like is the cheap feeling and looking saddle so I will probably change that - no big deal, I probably would on most bikes I would get anyway.

My roubaix? - it's a 2008 model S-Works Roubaix - built up myself with Campag record / centaur mix (record shifters & mechs - centaur brakes & chainset) and campag Eurus wheels. Cinelli neo morphe bars and Toupe Saddle - it is great! - my dream bike really - stiff and fast but comfortable with it - I don't know how they do it I honestly don't

and here it is - finally got it - (long story...)

it;s nice - not the lightest thing in the world and it will get a few upgrades to make it 'mine' - perhaps a new chainset actually as I am sure the one on it will be about 20kg worth - and it is very lowly geared (MTB gearing).

Spent a bit of time putting it together properly - adding grease to the seatpost and crank arms for example - I also had to set up the indexing properly but it is pretty sweet shifting now.

i need to learn how to setup mechanical disks properly

    nice though

ha ha - why - which rule have I broke? - I even lined the bloody crank arm up with the seatpost to save me from being nagged !

why do you think it looks too small red?

Loads of seatpost showing, flipped stem, and a stack of spacers.

Spacers are good for comfort - just not so good for aero positions in TT's. Then again I don't think that's the best bike to enter in a Club "10"

The silly amount of seatpost showing is definitely one thing we can agree on :D

    Hmm - weird.

This is the medium frame - im only 5ft7 - and actually the 'large' isn't that much bigger in seattube - just a little further reach.

I think it just looks a bit weird because of the frame design? - the seat collar is an inch or so above the re-enforcement fillet-thing on the top-tube.

(The thing above the seat collar is the trailer-hitch for the tag-a-long bike for my daughter.

You needed a white garage door as a backdrop for starters - I've asked the neighbours if I can borrow theirs this week for a few photos, and they think I've finally lost it

Best not to mention the spoke and front reflectors
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

    ah yes - the reflectors.

well - the front one will come off - but I am keeping the spoke ones - at least for the winter months.

I was out in the car the other night and was impressed at how visible spoke reflectors make a bike - so they are staying!
