Hi all,
I'm new to this forum as a born again rider having recently taken ownership of the entry level Boardman comp bike, really enjoying the ride and have started to re develop my passion for road cycling!
I am however in a little bit of pickle, having now started to push out a good few miles quite regularily i'm really tempted to upgrade to the Team Carbon model, i've never ridden a carbon bike before, when i used to cycle as a younger lad such bikes would have been considered witchcraft! i'm quite keen on the idea of upgrading it but am asking myself if it's really worth doing so? the comp is weighing in at 19.5 lbs in total whilst it's carbon counterpart is coming in at 17.6 lbs, please forgive my ignorance, but what are the real benefits between these 2 bikes other than the weight?
All advice is appreciated.....
Will pretty much be making my decision to upgrade based on the advice i get here, so thanks in advance
Cheers

wait think about it, halfords ... noooo they might have good bikes and stuff but the service is bad. the bike. the team carbon, is a great value for money. i have beein in the same situation as you and for a little extra you can get soo much more.
i wanted the team carbon but then with a little bit of open mindedness i found a great build.
planet X SL carbon road frame at £400 is really light about 110g
i got sram rival, one step down but there not too much difference
everything else i got was light to be honest, deda zero 100 stem [ one of the lightest out there ] tifosi carbon stem and a selle italia saddle at 120g
the whole thing came to about 7.1kg
cost me £1,300
have a look into itIt Never Gets Easier, you just get Faster and luckier.

Sounds like a good build if you can get 7.1k for £1300. Or of course, for a further £300 to make it £1600, you could get... or then you might as well spend £2000... perhaps £3000...0

Why not even the Boardman Road Pro Carbon for £1500, its a step up from the Team Carbon and puts you well and truly in carbon world. Don't listen to the Halfords haters - they've been very good in my experience (bikehut in particular).Shazam !!0

Welcome to the forum.
I wouldn't upgrade to the Team Carbon from where you are at the moment. I have the Comp SC so I know the frame well and I think its excellent. I would spend your money on better wheels and tyres first. The frame is more than good enough to take the upgrade, indeed you could end up with a lighter, faster bike going down this route. I think the price differnce is around £350, for that money you could buy some reasonable handbuilts from Paul Hewitt and a set of race tyres(Michellin Pro Race 3) and your riding experience would be transformed. Also if you have a bit of extra cash you could look on Ebay of at a local cycle jumble and pick up some lighter finishing kit(carbon seat post, stem etc) and really make your bike a bit special.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?
