Is it possible to use a Deore crank on an 8 speed setup?

Thinking of upgrading my crank, but currently run an 8 speed setup with HG50 cassette and HG50 chain. I would like to upgrade to a deore crank, but it says use with 9 speed setup and 9 speed chain only.

Can I use it or not?

Cheers,

  • No problem, Steve: the only reason it says 9 speed on the chainring is coz a 9 spd chain is slightly narrower, and the older chainring models may be a tad too thick. This way, you can use anything you choose.
