Leg warmers over shorts or shorts over leg warmers?

Now that autumn's upon us, I'd like to ask whether I should tuck my legwarmers into my shorts or pull my shorts over the top of my legwarmers.

I'd hate to make a faux pas in RP...

Leg warmers under shorts, IMO looks pretty odd with leg warmers over the shorts.

I'm probably making a FP in RP, but I go for shorts over legwarmers. Seems to keep 'em in place better...

    Clothing over the arm/leg warmers.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Is that why they kept creeping down my legs last winter?!

Damn. I should have asked. I lost count of the numbers of times I rolled into work with ankle warmers and frostbitten knees.

Agree with shorts over leg warmers. but strangely think that armwarmers over the jersey sleeves works O.K., IMHO ?

What ? Lighten up. Takis himelf says he "strangely" thinks it works - which to me looks lighthearted

I guess trying to be dry doesn't translate well in written form.

Just ask yourself: What would Mario Cippolini do. He wouldn't wear his leg warmers over his shorts.

    Hooray!
I'm gonna g t WWMD t-shirts made (they do come with a warning that you may be invaded by America whilst wearing...)

Tis true, Lance occasionally wore arm warmers over sleeves when TT training as it's more aero, but lance also wears black socks and stupidly long shorts.

Hmmm, let me clarify - I wear my armwarmers over the sleeves, not sure if it is cool or not, but easier to roll down if it gets hot.
    But really, who cares ?
Defo shorts over leg warmers though, anything else is as bad as builder's bum or thong

Hi Takis - sorry, didn't mean to offend - was a lame attempt at lighthearted banter.

I wear my arm warmers with a half inch gap of flesh between warmer & jersey as my arms are too scrawny to keep the warmers up.

Am I missing something, or are both these suggestions describing the same thing!?

Definitely shorts over leg warmers. Saw a few cases of leg warmers over shorts on the Tour of Britain coverage yesterday it just looked wrong.

Who would have thought staying warm could be so complicated..

Great pic of Cipo smoking. He's certainly a strange one.

I had to take my armwarmers in a bit (and drew blood with the needle, as it happens). I guess that my biceps aren't big enough to keep them taught.

Well worth trying them on before you get them delivered from Wiggle and sweat over them, like I did.
  • Do you not still get a breeze up the tshirt sleeves?

why not just use a windproof jersey?

you can't easily take the sleeves off a windproof jersey when you get hot.

Ah, I see you're in Edinburgh. Maybe getting hot is not a concept you're familiar with.

If I get too hot I can take the sleeves off and stuff them into a pocket - at this time of year it can be chilly on the morning commute but warmer in the afternoon ride home.

It's because generally they only wear them near the beginning of a stage rather than the whole stage. They expect to take them off after the first few km's.

Still doesn't excuse them from such obviously uncool behaviour!

  • leg warmers under shorts and am warmers over base layer but under jersey. Unless you have to put the arm warmers on mid-ride when you pull them on as best you can.

Some free advice. When getting dressed don't put your leg warmers on and then walk around the house to get your bib shorts. :D it'll look very dodgy :P

  • If your leg warmers want to slide down just hitch them to your shorts with a giant safety pin - set your own fashion statement.
