New forks

I have a five year old trek 1000 56cm bike and I'm thinking of buying carbon forks.

If the forks come off a Trek road bike, but with a different frame size (eg 54cm) will they fit my bike? Does the tube length matter?

Thanks,

David.

Wouldn't have thought so ? - are you getting a good price, as they may be an expensive way of doing things....Alpina, for example do some reasonably priced budget forks

If the 54cm bike has a smaller headtube than yours, then the forks might be too short. The tube length does matter, generally new forks are very long and have to be cut to size.

Also make sure they are the same diameter.

You need to make sure that the steerer tube is at least as long as your current one and is the same diameter. The forks should also have the same rake or the steering will be affected. Otherwise there should be no problem.
