Hello All,

I hope this is the right place for this topic, are there any people out there who do any on-the-fly filming of their rides via helmet or on-bike cams?

I'm interested to know what people use and what they would recomend...

Thanks
Chris

  • If you've got the Wod go for this.

I got mind in USA they are half the price.

    Perfect results every time.
  • I was actually looking at this (and around this price range)

    up to ~£200
  • I have a Canon Ixus 55 digital camera which i mount on a handlebar mount. Gives very good results I think.

With a 2gb card I get about 17mins of high quality footage. My next project is to make a helmet mount and see if that is any better than the handlebar mount just slightly worried how much of a dick i might look with a camera stuck on my helmet though

  • DR1V3R, thanks for the reply,

the camera does look good, but I was looking for something that is small and compact for helmet mounting. (bullet came style)
however, I am also looking for a 'shoot from the hip' static's camera too so that might be a handy option with the ability to film also.

    any other inputs welcome

Wonder how the new iPod nano's would cope? Small enough to stick anywhere, and you can listen to your tunes at the same time!! 8) [off road only of course!]

If you want a simple self contained one, I'd recommend the Helmet Hero Wide, lovely wee bit of kit... it's not particularily high res but the picture quality and stability is very good for a self contained unit at this price, in good light it's pretty impressive (and in bad light, it's entertainingly Blair Witchy) Certainly the best of the simple options I reckon. The Contour HD is nicer, but also spendier, and a bit bigger.

Seperates do give better quality, but they're also a lot more hassle- I had a pretty nice setup with a Vio camera and a JXD solid-state media player, which I used to good effect for motorbike stuff but it had too many wires and this one also needed seperate power supplies. Just a hassle really. The quality was better than my hero cam but not drastically.

well, they're not going to be in the same game as the Dogcam, let alone the same league for a start.
