Actually this is really just insanely OTT.

golddetails.jpg

It's by a company called Aurumania

Bikehacks says:
As of 7 September, the world will never be quite the same again. That is when the Scandinavian design company AURUMANIA will be launching the world’s most lavish and expensive bike.

But it will only be a tiny, exclusive group of people who can become the proud owners of these gold bikes, which each bear a price tag of € 80,000. That’s because only 10 will ever be made, all numbered.

These 10 limited-edition bikes represent a cornucopia of delights for any feinschmecker. The designers have employed all the classic principles in their overall appearance, and every detail has been under careful consideration.

Each bike is hand-built, and then plated with 24-carat gold and generously adorned with more than 600 fine Swarovski crystals. The handlebar grips are made of hand-sewn, chocolate-brown leather, and a moulded Brooks leather saddle provides exactly the right nostalgic touch.

I say ewwww.

The gold, unless plated shouldn't be able to withstand the stresses a normal bike would 24ct gold is just one under pure I think....

Not feeling Swarovski Crystals. Sure some of their stuff is cool but if it ain't diamonds (colour no less than F and clarity no less than VS1) then it ain't bling.

See, that just made me Wikipedia Braille and figure out what it said...

It would appear to spell-out "AURUMANIA" - which is still ghey because the prefix "AUR" usually refers to all things related to sound and hearing...

Wrong - aurum is latin for gold. Still a rubbish name though

They did not say anything about tyres - I guess a set of "Halfords" own brand 28mm will do then!

My apologies. I don't like plated, means the gold can wear away and leave the unpolished metal cheapness underneath...

Apologies to all those who have plated jewellery... nothing personal...

Don't like Swarovski crystal, beyond the design of some items...

My LBS has a special edition top of the range Giant bike which has, amongst other things, a gold plated Campag Record Groupset - even the Nokon cable housings are gold plated. Was to commemorate an anniversay I think - not really my cup of tea though...

Wonder if the rivets on the saddle are gold. They could have at least put it level. *grumble, grumble*And the tyre labels aren't lined up with the valves. That's bike photo taking epic fail... FACT

That Raleigh is really classy looking though - it has never been used and it is made of Reynolds 531 steel. It is also 20 years old!! A bit of respect where it is due :)

I love the way that the the Aurumania has no mention of what it's made from apart from gold and crystal.

Could well be an old ebay find cleaned up and plated.

Also clicking on the order button love the bit towards the bottom
