Got up at the crack of dawn yesterday to go for a ride with three mates. All went well, blasting through the Surrey countryside... 17 miles from home, after a cake stop we set off again - there's a stretch of tarmac coming up so I reach down to adjust the rear shock to Propedal and my hand comes up covered in oil :?

I look down and it seems my shock must have blown in a big way on the last downhill section, coating most of my frame, cranks, rear wheel etc with oil. Cue phoning the wife, "Hi can you come and fetch me..." Thank god for mobiles eh?

I figured as the bike's going to be out of action for a while I may as well get the forks serviced at the same time. Just out of interest, how often should I be getting the shock serviced? I'm guessing more frequently than I have...

Depends what it is, but once a year I think is a minimum if you want to keep it running well.
