anyone do the pedal for scotland event today, weather fantastic, route relatively fast but organisation could have been better. all in all a good day out, we left at 7.50am and managed to avoid the predicted crowds, i think they were anticipating 7,000.

Yes. The weather was pretty good in the west. I didn't leave until half eight.
Was planning on cycling back too, but I dropped my chain just after a hill, and since then it'd been making a funky noise. Somehow it managed to fall off when it was in the TNT lorry as well. :?0 -
Yep, left a lot later rhan you guys, nearer 10. Weather held up and the crowds were never too bad.
Thought the route was much better this year. And a big thank you to the Evans Cycles mechanics who sorted us out 20 miles in.0 -
Yes it was a great day for a cycle, route was nice and fast, no hills to speak of, shame about the marshalling at some points though, worst bit was the bus ride back to Glasgow and waiting for the bikes to arriveSkinny Git on a Bianchi.0

Y'know, I only seen one Bianchi today. :? You weren't wearing a Bianchi jersey too were you?
Anybody see me? Lime bar tape and lime Sidis. Rocking one of those DHB Cyborg jerseys. 8) Did anybody see anybody? :P
Got to say that the marshalling was a bit poor in two or three places, but other than that I knew where I was going.
It was quite weird seeing a few people wearing full Astana kit and the likes on their MTBs. And a really slow climber wearing a polka dot jersey.0 -
At one point there were three Bianchi's riding together just coming out of Glasgow I saw loads of them (all better than mine), I was wearing a Lotto Yersey from my youth. Cant say I saw you, Although I did see a bike come out of the back of the first TNT lorry with its chain off - was it yours? Think it was black, never saw the brand.Skinny Git on a Bianchi.0

I think I seen about three Lotto jerseys. Also seen a Rice Krispies jersey - I want one!
Hmm, it wasn't mine. I reckon the TNT people just suck at transporting bikes. They also managed to knock out one of the bar end plugs!0 -

I saw two bikes come out of the back of a TNT lorry as one. It was probably a pedal stuck through the spokes and the guys were laughing about it and lifting them up to show everyone. If it was my bike I'd have been raging.
The ride was good but I really paid for no road bike training. Much slower than last year and in a good amount of pain today, still enjoyed it though!Current steed is a '07 Carrera Banshee X

I would have liked to have given this a go, but had other things planned sadly... May do it soon though as my sister lives in Edinburgh. Couple of questions to those who did it. How long did it take you guys to complete and also, was the route well signposted ? I have a bad, bad sense of direction and would fully expect to get lost.0

My mate and i did it in just over 3 hours with another 20 minutes break for a cuppa and some cake!! (reasonably priced and good!!).
Most of the route well signposted but for two turns, once the other riders got it right and we followed and the second time we probabily did a couple of miles detour. We started early so there were not as many riders as later but basically it was just a case of folowing on from however was in front.
only downside was bus and bike transport back which was a pain so next year i'll investigate cycling home, or leaving the car in edinburgh (more likely given the extra 25 miles this would put on route)0 -
Cheers LMK. I kind of assumed the train would be fine for coming back on if I was to shattered to cycle back, so long as it is'nt during rush hour and wasnt too busy, and there arent to many of you. May have to investigate.0
-
lmk1, there a people all along the route, so as long as you don't leave too early you can just follow all the slow people.
The TNT people didn't seem to bike friendly ...0 -

I thought it was well signposted for the event, but I would have struggled to do it without the pointer arrows, I have no sense of direction either!
A big thanks to the guy that made space for me when I almost collided with the traffic cone.0 -
I did it with 4 other mates. It took us 6 hours 1 minutes. Though that was Glasgow to Edinburgh and back to Glasgow on the A89. We were all riding fixed.
The route was substantially better this year, but there were still some idiots out there.0 -
I think next year Id like to leave just a tad later, gives us more scalps to claim All in all it was a nice day out in really nice weather for a change.Skinny Git on a Bianchi.0

Quote from today's Glasgow Herald:
Reader Donald Macdonald tells us about the uniquely Glaswegian words of encouragement as the cyclists on the Pedal for Scotland charity run from Glasgow to Edinburgh were going through Easterhouse.

Did anyone happen to use a Garmin??? I would like to know the course that was used this year as I am planning a 100 miler and Edinburgh to Glasgow and back could be a good ride.17 Stone down to 12.5 now raring to get back on the bike!0

Cheers mate...never even thought of looking there.17 Stone down to 12.5 now raring to get back on the bike!0 -
I dont think it was even 50 miles one way, I had it at 50.3 miles and that was after following other riders down a wrong route on the cyclepath near the end, Id knock a mile or two off at least.Skinny Git on a Bianchi.0

Aye! I thought my computer was just playing up!
I think I had 52 ish miles by the end. That would be including a wee seven mile pootle into town.
When I was passing the signs that were saying things like "30 miles" and that I looked down and just thought that they were stupid and put them in the wrong place. Good to know that I'm not wrong. It was definitely shorter.0
