Brake lever doesn't spring back

Hey all,
When I pull the lever on my back break and then release, it takes ages to return to the original position. There are loads of tutorials online for fixing the orientation of the pads or the distance of the pads from the rim, but I can't find anything on this issue.
Any ideas...?

have you checked the cable? might need some lube.0

what brakes, usually either a sticky brake or grotty cables.
Undo the cable then see if the lever springs back well on it's own and the caliper/arms move freely.0 -
Thanks for the advice, guys!
The lever springs back on its own. The calipers spring back okay (although the spring is a little rusty. The cable is a little grotty. Lubing helped a tad, thanks.
So it's 70:30 for cable:caliper-spring. Of to get some replacement parts!
Thanks!0
