Farcical!... How embarassing to find a level crossing closed, with potential break killing consequences... :oops: :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:
Never heard of that in the TdF...

I'll sit back and wait to be corrected, now... :wink:

    The Tour of Ireland had its own fair share of problems too. Ran out of money and it rained so hard it made it dangerous for the race on the last day.

    Barriers were closed on a stage of this years TdF. Memory gone, but I'm sure it was a Skil/Shimano in a break who had to sit it out til the choo choo went past.

    You would be gutted.

    Yep, my teddy would have gone straight over the barrier... :evil:

  • Loads of occurances in the Grand Tours. The organisation looked excellent, much better than the Tour of Ireland.

    Group club run went to the top of one of the climbs to watch them, before we seen them come past me and another 2 guys went down to record our time on the climb, it was something like 2.7 miles, 11% max, over 5% most of the time, averaged just shy of 15.5mph. I think they'll have being doing 20 or so, need to find garmin stats from them though..

    I got 2 crap photo's too. (Sony K800i)

    I remember that also. Quick google says it was on: Stage 10.

    It happened in Paris-Roubaix when Cancellara won in 2006.

    It happens in loads of races every year. The Tour of Britain has had some organisational issues in past editions, but there's nothing they can do about level crossings.

    In france do they stop the train?
  • No they don't Will. There have been a few recent occurances of riders being stuck at level crossings.

    I have to disagree - Will, you now look like the bizarre mate one of my friends had at uni 20 years ago. He never said a word. Kudos!

    There was a race a couple of years ago where Boonen(?) nipped thro' the barrier and someone may have got disqualified. Quite a few instances of Euro railway crossings holding the race up

    Paris-Roubaix 2006. Hoste, Van Petegem and Gusev were disqualified for crossing just as the barriers were coming down. Ballan, Flecha and Boonen (in his rainbow jersey) had to wait.

    Technically, the Boonen trio should have been DQed too, because they waited for the train to pass, then crossed even though the barriers were still down. "One train may hide another" and all that. But the commissaires let them off.

    In the words of the man himself;
