Chorus vs Record

I have always rode chorus, but am thinking about a new bike for next year and wonder if it is worth paying the extra and going up to record.
Does it actually work better or are you paying the extra money to save a few grams
Any advice would be helpful

Functionally, there's virtually no difference - the main differences are things like titanium fasteners, ceramic bearings, or the Cult bearings on Super Record. Opinion seems to be if you can't stretch to Super Record, go for Chorus and a upgrade the bearings.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

For me, there's no point in having Record. It's either Chorus or SR, depending on budget.

I have Chorus 11 speed and its honestly the best groupset I've ever had. I've used them in sportives this summer in Europe, the groupset works incredibly smoothly. I wouldn't say go for either Chorus or Super Record, Record is still a fantastic groupset. It really comes down to how light you want the groupset to be, Chorus is a bit heaver than R or SR. For myself it doesn't make much difference depends what riding you are doing.

Also yes the bearings are different as mentioned, Chorus will last a long time! But don't ignore Record.

One thing to bear in mind if you're speccing individual parts is that there's no point at all in having Record Ergos rather than Chorus Ergos (unless it's important to you what badge is on your parts), as functionally they're completely identical.

It's a bit like buying a Porsche Boxter instead of a 'proper' 911

    or 'Suntory Scotch'
  • Thanks for your thoughts
Will have to check the piggy bank

You could say exactly the same about buying Record rather than SR

    Indeed
  • Just get the best deal you can. There are always offers out there. I have Super Record on one bike, Recod on another and Chorus on a third. They are all superb. I'm building bike four soon and will look around for the best bargain when I have the money available for the groupset. Wouldn't go any lower than Chorus personally though although I have no experience of Athena.

Don't worry, nor have many other people.
