Hayes 9 XC/HD Bleed Issue

I'm trying to upgrade my front brake to having a lovely goodridge hose but having tried to bleed the system I can't seem to get any success. It's a homemade bleedkit (but it does work having used it on numerous occasions) Its a 9's XC caliper on a 9's HD lever. but having consider compatibility issues and tried an old 9's lever that I know has all its seals in good working order it still won't bleed properly either.

I suspect the goodridge hose my be split (no idea how)
Any ideas on getting the bleed towork and also, what washer if any should be on the calpier end of the goodridge hose?
