Can somebody help me?

I'm a fan of "football", but I find it hard to keep up to date with results, performances and news etc as I don't have Sky and although the BBC are getting better, they're not quite there at the moment.

So does anybody know a decent website where I can get a short summary of matches, without having to go into the detail that the official NFL website goes into, and perhaps with video higlights?

Thanks in advance

Says the charlton fan? What's wrong with other sports? To the OP I would suggest picking a team and then just following it through that teams website. Then just follow the wembly game and the super bowl. Also if you're into video games then get madden 10. Tbh I prefer ice hockey and find that sometimes NFL games can get bogged down occasionally. However the great thing about NFL is that teams can go from useless to brilliant in a few years which is good to see.

There must be somewhere on the net - try the US version of sky sports news, or a US newspaper site.

Last time i had access to Sky Sports 3 they showed the Sunday and monday night games most weekends in between the wrestling! so its worth getting hold of....

  • Thanks for the advice. I like to follow Carolina Panthers, but they're not very good. I will follow it through their website, and the Wembley game and the Siuperbowl are usually on the BBC aren't they?

As for Sky, no can do. I've asked my landlord about the possibility of getting it but she say no, and to be honest I probably couldn't afford it anyway.

I used to love a bit of the NFL - used to be shown peak-time as well - Channel 4, Sunday, 8.30pm.

In 1984, when Channel 4 first started showing NFL, I started watching - I was only a nipper and decided that The LA Raiders were waaaay cool (man!). I was really chuffed when they won the Superbowl that year - however I don't think they've won anything ever since. So, yeah, blame me...

I'm not sure they've won a game since then! They suck and suck bad.

Bet you stopped watching a while ago eh Chris? They moved back to Oakland in 1995  . Chicago anyway, started watching in the mid 80's, Walter Payton, Richard Dent, Mike Singletary, Jim McMahon, Willie Gault and of course the Fridge.

As for the OP, can you not get Cable? Do Virgin not show Sky Sports?

I did start watching again briefly in the early 2000s and was baffled by all the changes - LA back to Oakland I could cope with but Arizona Cardinals? Baltimore Ravens? Tennessee Titans? Jacksonville Jaguars? Who are these people?
  • Thanks for the help :)

However, just because I can see highlights of the Panthers, doesn't mean i want to watch them lol. It was literally so bad on Sunday that I couldn't watch past half time. 38-10 in the end.

I was impressed with Brady for the Patriots this weekend though. He's kinda the reason I got into NFL, when he lead the Patriots AGAINST the Panthers in the Superbowl a few years back

I assume you mean American Football!!
  • Hence the speech marks, you have to at least partially concede to the Americans.
  • On a related note, could someone explain to me how the fixtures are calculated? I know that a team has to play it's divisional rivals (twice?), but how are the remaining fixtures decided?

    BTW - go Broncos!
  • Good start by the niners. Cant wait to see them against the Lions when I'm over at xmas.

You play another division within your conference based on a rotating timetable. That's 10 games accounted for...

You play against all the teams from a division outside your conference, that's another 4....

The remaining two are inter-conference games based on teh previous years standings.

I am sure you have a life, it's just I hate gridiron with a passion and let that colour my comment.I apologise for personalising my prejudice.

Any ball sport that has 40+ on the team, with only 11 on the pitch at one time, that has specialised teams within teams, that requires fat people who hardly ever touch the ball, that is drug addled, that requires armour, that is franchised, that has so many breaks in play for no reason, to me is pointless.

Now if it was played with basically the starting 11 through the whole game I'd have a bit more respect for it. Read Norman Mailers take on it in his book on american college sport - title eludes me.
