We've never met, but I recognised you from photos here and I definitely recogised that Kuota! The time was about 6.45pm on Fri 11th Sept on the A3 heading ot of town. I almost stopped to say hello but the traffic was a bit heavy. I was on the dirty yellow Apollo - go team Halfords!

DDD scalped by an Apollo  rub it in and say it was an MTB
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

A true scalp is not only overtaking someone but leaving them stopped at a set of lights. As you, who have clearly beaten the lights, pummels nothing but the open air ahead. ~ 'DondaddyD'. Player of the Unspoken Game
  • No, it's a 7005 aluminium Apollo TDF something or other road bike that my dad bought from a pawn shop for about 75 quid. It's my commuting hack, it's so rubbish that no one would ever try to nick it. I also have a Focus Cayo (carbon) which I ride with Dulwich Paragon on the weekends.

I recommend this training method to anyone, after riding a chunky Halfords bike all week with a 5-10kg Decathlon rucksack strapped to my back, getting on the Focus is like riding on air - the Apollo definitely builds fitness.

Anyway, next time I'll say something, but I thought a complete stranger shouting "Don Daddy D" at you on the busy A3 out of nowhere might cause an accident. I very rarely ride along the A3 but I was heading out for someone's birthday drinks in Clapham. May see you at the Morpeth sometime...

If the rest of your cycle gear looks like that, it's all making sense.

Nope this is not a wind up! Just to rub it in, the Apollo has an unnamed Shimano and Tektro groupset which needs a clean.

Sorry I didn't actually pull past DDD on the busy A3, whip out my camera and take a snap before completing my ride! DDD hasn't denied that he was buzzing along the A3 at about 6.45pm on Fri, about a quarter of a mile before Clapham North Tube station though.

It happened and as it happened I thought two things:

    i) He's clearly trying.

ii) This better not come back to haunt me on BikeRadar...

    [ Excuse Mode ]
I was only at half the speed of awesome, not sprinting and in no mood too chase.

It was Friday and I was tired

He came up from behind (heh) and went like the clappers I had no idea he was there until he overtook, then see above.

My work bag was really heavy and I've found the sternum stramp too small for my awesome 42in chest and restricts my diaphragm restricting my air intake - this is actual fact and I'm thinkng of switching back to a rucksack.
    [ / Excuse Mode ]

Seriously though, if that is HeadHunters ambient commuting speed he is faster than me. A lot faster than me.

On a seperate note, I love Karen, to me she is the best thing I've ever purchased/in the world. There are many bikes like Karen and there are better bikes but Karen is mine. And I love her.

That said if the guy on the same type of bike is faster than the other guy then the bike isn't going to make much difference beyond how much slower you're actually going to be.

I feel no shame in being scalped by a bike of arguable less spec and expense than my bike or by someone of more awesome sauce than me. it's not about the bike, beyond how the bike makes you feel.

All things being relative to me Karen is awesome though.

But all that be damned, Headhunter to quote Greg66...

It's on, its on like Donkey Kong. The gauntlet is down.

  • Hmmm. My IT skills aren't very strong I'm afraid. I've got a couple of photos but I don't know how to attach them. They are .jpg files and have opened up in Adobe on my computer but I don't know how to attach them. I know you write something between /img or something, but what?

The photos need to be available online before you can post them on here/online. If you don't have a facebook account then create a photobucket accout - www.photobucket.com - that way you can store your pictures online.

Then you can link (copy and paster the URL web-address on here and we can click and see it.

Alternatively you can put the enclose the link with and and the image will be displayed here. It's how I post the pictures of Karen.

  • Aargh, this is driving me insane. I've put the photos on Photo Bucket and I've done what you said and put the web address of the photo on Photo Bucket between the ... icons but the photos don't appear... All I get is a Photo Bucket web address with 2 silly IMG things at each end... What else do I need to do?

Have you unchecked the "Disable BBCode in this post" checkbox?
  • It already seems to be unchecked... I'll try again...

  • Are you seeing that in the preview? Just submit the post, and we'll tell you what you're doing wrong.
  • Still not working. OK.

    "Disable BBCode..." is unchecked
    "Disable Smilies..." is unchecked
    "Attach signature..." is checked
    "Notify me...." is checked

    Options

    HTML is OFF
    BBCode ON
    Smilies are ON

Does this mean anything to anyone? And I just add the Photo Bucket web address between the IMG thingies? I don't have to go to any specific page on PB or anything?

So you can see the pics? Why are they not showing up in the post? Yes I was taking part in a trial thing and had to wear the mask, I took the photos to send into the trial...
