Help with fork choice

Hi guys,
I'm currently building up an Inbred and want to know what fork would be the best fit for it?
I weigh 11 Stone and like to ride cross-country, trails, short blats about the woods getting active on the bike in berms and little jumps.
If possible I might like something tough to take to the 4X and Dual slalom course too!
I'd like some different suggestions than Pikes as I have just sold a pair, and want them to be pretty light. Budget isn't applicable as I just want to know what would be best and then I'll save the needed amount.
Thanks for your help

which Inbred?
what axle fitting do you need?
Pike U-turn."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Sorry forgot there was more than one.
It's a 456.
I just sold my 426 Pike U-turns and am now thinking I need to buy another pair maybe 454's but wanted to see if there were better forks.0 -

If It's the frame I just sold you It's not a 456 It's just a Inbred. I can only take up to 120mm but I only ever used 100mm on It.It's not a ornament, so ride It0 -
Oh right, good job I posted otherwise I would've ruined the geometry by running too steep a fork.0

Reba Team Maxle lite 120mm would be ideal, but pricey at £400+ and you`d need a wheel with 20mm axle capability too.
It is surprising though, how much you can ride with decent 100mm forks, particularly if you are using high volume rubber, in which case the £250 Reba SLs would do the job nicely. They are actually pretty tough forks, especially given that you are only 11 stone.......
My riding is similar to yours, and I weigh nearer 14 stone, and whilst the rider is sometimes lacking in technique the Rebas are up to a fair bit of abuse. They`ve been round the local pump track, and over some dirt jumps before too.
Some guys I ride with have Inbreds and they use Rebas on them.2006 Giant XTC

Hi I have found somewhere to get reba teams for £25 more than the Reba SL price is it worth it?
I know the teams have Black box Motion Control and Dual Flow lockout or somesuch.0 -
Yes,Teams have black box internals,so better controlled damping, which is worth it.
Also has external floodgate adjuster, not that its a big deal.2006 Giant XTC

I have a cove stiffee and have pike 454 and they work fine a good fork0

I have been looking at the 2010 Rockshox Rev U-Turn Maxlelights, thig is I've just bought a new 456 Summer Season to hack about on and can only afford one fork.
Do you think the Rev's will suit both the Inbred and the 456 SSR?
They are only marginally heavier than the reba's I was looking at and have up to £150mm Travel so are pretty future proof for other frames also.
Is any one riding on one at the moment what's it like?
Thanks0 -

i would say revs but as they are 140mm, its a no no, id say a Reba 120mm u-turn, with maxlelight. should eat the woods and trail stuff, but can be screwed down for 4x and climbing.I like bikes and stuff0

If you want forks to suit your current frame with a view to using them in future on a frame with "longer frok geometry", get some 2009 140mm air u-turn revs while they're going cheap(ish) and wind them down to 110mm for your current frame.
If you do want them for another frame, go easy when chopping the steerer down. Better to keep a few extra spacers on top of your setm than not have enough steerer for your next bike."Internet Forums - an amazing world where outright falsehoods become cyber-facts with a few witty key taps and a carefully placed emoticon."0 -
I was looking for 2009's but the air u-turn Maxle lite's can't really be bought anywhere for a cheap price. Best I found was £439.99, so I thought I may as well save up for the 2010's and get the Dual flow gubbins and BBMC upgrade.
2009's go from 110-140mm
2010's go from 120-150mm
Inbred suitable up to 120mm and the 456 SSR is up to 150mm anyway. i was also thinking about changing the Inbred to a rigid singlespeed for commuter duties and winter riding.0 -
Dude, i have a set of all dancing, bells & whistles Reba World Cup 100mm brand new never been fitted before forks sitting doing nothing in my cellar if you're interested?0
-
Can the 20010 Revs be reduced to 110-140, I wonder?Uncompromising extremist0
-
Not sure about custom air Uturn. hmmm.0
-
Thanks for the offer billynobates, but I really wanted something longer travel and adjustable to use with both frames.
Would the Standard Inbred be too slack at 120mm then?
The 456 Would be perfect at 140mm I think.
Could I not just add a spacer or something to minimise the travel instead of increasing it?0 -
Too slack for you or too slack for anyone else - too personal to say!
The frame is designed for 90-130mm of travel.
Some forks can be travel adjusted internally (ie all travel)0 -
Thanks SS I think that settles it then, I'm gonna save up for some 2010 Rev's as they are long travel and future proof for other custom builds, and they are roughly the same weight as the Reba's I was looking at getting with the adjustability between my inbred and 456 SSR.
Thanks for everyone's input and I'll get pics up when I get them, never had new forks before, I'm quite excited0
