Does anyone have a personal recommendation for a bike carrier that would fit a VW Touran ?

Its got a back end like a van :-)

    Although I can't make a definite recco, I can warn you that Thule racks or similar with solid/metal fastenings/attachments, rather than straps are more problematic.

    I had an awesome Thule rack - easy to fasten to the car, no faffing with staps, no need to fasten under bumper - on my punto. Bought a roomster - which is not a full on MPV, but due to flat and high back end (van-ish although not as much as a Touran!), and a hinge point which is further forward along the roof, the metal attachments wouldn't bend and reach.

    I now have a halfords one with webbing straps - more of a faff, but more adjustable and much more available length.

    The Thule rack is a much better design though, and I was gutted it didn't fit - I would recommend their (pricey!) products. I'm sure they'll have a tool on their website for assessing compatibility.

    Should get round to putting it up for sale........
