A few mates and I had the day off work yesterday and I had my first trip over to Forest of Dean. The weather was absolutely perfect for MTBing - gorgeous sunshine all day and a nice cool breeze and I couldn't help thinking the whole way round 'I could be in the office right now'
Luckily one of our group knows the area well, so we did a bit of the FODCA trail to start, but then got in loads of local-knowledge singletrack trails, some of which were absolutely sublime! Then we finished with a blast down the DH track while a group of DHers pushing back up had a laugh at the XC boys trying to rail the berms. I got half way down before realising I'd left my pro pedal on
All in all it was one of those great rides I'll remember when it's the middle of January and I'm dreaming of summer!

Great stuff. I ride FoD quite a lot and have a great time. I guess you did the 10-12 mile ride that goes around the back of the forest. It's great to session those DH runs on an XC bike. Actually much more fun than on my burly DH rig.
I bet you'll be going again soon!0 -
Definitely going again, I love forest singletrack. I just wish I could remember where exactly we went, I'd never find those trails again0

FOD is only about 50 mins from me but i always over look it to go to afan, i think i'll be making a trip there before the winter really kicks in0

I think you should be able to work it out as they will probably be some others on the same trails.
Might meet you there sometime. It's a great track, ay.0 -

I really liked it, but I reckon you could have a pretty dull ride there if you didn't know where to go. The FODCA trail looks decent, but we didn't really ride much of it. It was 2 or 3 great singletrack sections (all really well built by the locals and hidden enough to not be overused) and the downhill at the end that really made the whole trip.0 -

My favourite bits were near Ellwood village, so if I go there on my own I can just drive there and ride them over and over again0 -
Yeah, The FODCA can be done in just over 30 mins and I'm a fat lazy git. Good fun though. The best start is toturn left onto the dirt road where you come out of the forest and have the view of the valley before going into the trees again. Follow that road to the bottom of the hill and take the left cycle track back into the forest right on the corner. It's a long accent, but the fun starts after that. Turn right at the top and there's a whole world of fun.0
