SRAM rival gears making clicking noises

Hi guys,
As some of you know I bought a Sabbath Silk Road with SRAM Rival a couple of months ago. It has been running fine until now – a couple of days ago the gears started developing what I call a clicking noise and in fact some of them jump a little bit – you can see the chain and rear derailleur jumping at every turn of the pedals. I took it today to the LBS (not where I bought the bike) and the bloke has told me that this is completely normal as the cables are new and they are stretching, I only need to regulate those nuts at the end of the cables. Is this correct? The bike seems to still make a slight clicking noise (nothing like before though).
What do you guys think?

This is correct. The cables do stretch a little in the first few weeks, so you need to adjust the indexing slightly. That's exactly what the barrel adjusters are for. ( I fiddle with mine on the move using the ones on the downtube)
With 10 spd sprockets being so close together the indexing has to be spot on or else the chain will be rubbing on the adjacent sprockets and hence be noisy.
With a little bit of patience you should be able to fine tune it so it's completely silent again. (much easier if you have the bike at a comfortable height on a workstand, rather than upside down on the lawn like I do)
After the initial couple of months, indexing should not require further attention. Unless, like me, you can't help fiddling with mechanical stuff.0 -
Ok, thanks Keef66 ... so I will put it up in the workstand tonight until is perfect!!!x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x
