Astana to ride Merckx and Sky maybe Pinarello

If I understand correctly, Astana will ride Merckx bikes for three years: http://www.hbvl.be/nieuws/sport/wielren ... stana.aspx

Apparently some Sky mechanics are testing out Pinarellos with Mavic and Shimano components. Doesn't mean that will be final but it is definitely an option.

I wonder if Sky will approach their compnents with the same insane manner as the track team.

    I think he means the obsessive attention to detail.

    But whereas the difference on the track can be measured in milliseconds, in a road race your choice of bike is a lesser factor.

    Ridiculous attention to detail. You know how Boardman works. Maybe effective but not I'm not a fan.

    I think they call the aggregation of small gains or something. It's all about improving 100 things by 1%

    Yeah it does make sense on the track, and possibly more for the mental side of things too. The riders believe in their kit.

    As you say - for road racing - the bikes not that important - not that the advertising admits it !
